So picture this: Young homeschooler, wearing shorts that are at least a size or two too small. An off brand t-shirt that has the opposite of cool on it. And enter one of those moments that would make people wonder and question life. Standing with a group of people at the weekly homeschool group meeting. Yes we had those! we were learing how to do something worthless later in life, like pottery or something. Well everyone was planing on hanging out later on. So I got up the courage to ask the group if I could hang out too. After asking my mom of course. And lucky for me, that had already been planed, but I had no idea so I just tried to act cool like I didn't need to ask. We all drove over to the friends house to hang out. The friends house was out of town and had achers to play on. We all decided to go play hid and go seek or some form of that game. Well First few rounds I did fine in, didn't get found first, had good spots to hid. Well this game turned into base tag. Now there was running around involved. Please paint this mental picture, I'm as althletic as cheese that is stuck to the bottom of a goat. Well We all have to run for base and the first few times i'm doing okay, but as the game went on I started to get very tired and out of breath very fast. This then started to impare my ability to focus on my surroundings. Now you may be trying to guess. You fell down. Nope, not that easy. I ran into a tree. I wish. I got stuck in a tree and needed help down. Wrong again. I got my cloths stuck on something and riped a hole in my cloths. That would still be better than what happend. Okay ready for this. So I must have a gift for this ability I was the only kid to be able to do something so stupid. While running for the base running down the hil towards the house. I find the only barbed wire fence. Well I don't find the barbs digging into my body or legs or arms. I get a barb dead center in my forehead. I fall to the ground after being close lined by the barbed wire. I quickly get up and try to act like i'm not in pain or hurt. I start making my way to the house again. Once I get there the rest of the group start pointing and laughing. I touch my fingers to my forhead and feel the blood coming down my face. Yeah they didn't feel bad cuz most of them saw me get closelined. I mean how does that happen, why is there only one wire strung up, how the heck am I the only one to find it! So one of the moms took me in and cleaned up the cut and stuck a butterfly bandaid on it. I stayed inside from then till I went home.
So lesson for you today. When playing base tag, please survey the area and find, and mark the stray barbed wire with bright markers. Second wear a helmet that protects just your forehead while playing. Third no matter how much you try to act tough when people see you run into a barbed wire and you hit the ground they know your hurt and will only laugh more when you lie about being tough.
